Thailand's pristine Khao Sok National
Park abounds with exciting wildlife encounters: the
sights and sounds of macaque monkeys bathing... the melodic
chattering calls of vivid technicolor hornbill parrots preening.
The pervasive smells of tropical floral blossom bouquets...
strange exotic fruits... aromatic trees and roots. A
dreamy canoeing paradise, hiking deep into the mysterious
misty jungle rainforests of legendary Khao Sok.
River
Roaming
Ask your canoeing boatman to linger for a brief respite,
by the shaded mangrove riverbanks of these hidden estuaries.
Ask gently, and he'll retrieve the delicate, unfamiliar
fruits from the rainforest canopy, and chuckle at your awkward
peeling discovery of your sensory ripe delight. Canoeing
heaven...
Panoramic Vistas
The soaring limestone escarpment karsts, ancient skeletons
of long-gone tropical coral reefs, lean precariously at
gravity-defying angles not normally witnessed on planet
earth. Towering ominously above the welcome refresh
of the cool waterfalls, they provide shade and shelter,
a sanctuary against the tropical monsoon climate.
Unspoilt Neighborhood
The Khao Sok National Parkland nestles commodiously amongst
an environmental backdrop of picturesque hazy valleys cultivated
by friendly rural farmers, punctuated by the enigmatic Budhist
Temples of this sleepy backwater of Southern Thailand. But
please! Don't tell ALL your friends!
Elephant Rock n' Roll
Take a leisurely stroll upon the back of a rocking Indian
elephant, lurching and rolling like a crazy drunken fairground
ride, pluck ripe rambutan as you pass beneath the boughs.
But hang on tight as these majestic old gentlemen of the
forests negotiate the slippery, rock-strewn streams, hiking
impatiently onward towards the refreshing waterfall pool
for lunch, urged on impatiently by their mysterious mahouts.
Be
Prepared!
You'll not want to forget a second of this profoundly impressive
experience. So bring your diary, and be sure to pack plenty
of film for photographs - but don't forget a plastic ziplock
bag to keep it dry when the canoeing wet fun starts! You'll
not need any bug spray though, for hiking at the altitude
of 800 meters (2,500 feet) and fresh marine breezes keep
those pesky critters at bay.
Rocky
Bath Time
The waterfall grotto suddenly appears as the stream widens
into a series of shallow pools in the stream's time-eroded
bedrock. A chance to pause and stretch out on the banks.
Take the plunge in a light-hearted water frolic and frame
photographs of your companions in the dark mineral pools
beneath the gentle waterfall showers.
'Home, James!'
Time to relax and reflect on your days of discovery as we
take a leisurely return trip back to Phuket Island on the
surprisingly well-maintained highway environment, tirelessly
winding our way through the bizarre landscape of Phang Nga
Bay, better known for the famous James Bond Island. Back
in the cocoon of your hotel room, you'll sleep well on the
night of your return, perhaps re-living your day's adventurous
exploits of discovery in the enigmatic Khao Sok National
Park. Either way, you'll still have the photographs to prove
that it wasn't just a dream!
